From University To Study At Home – Speed Reading
What started as a university lecture seminar has evolved into an affordable do-it-yourself course designed to make everyone "from stay-at-home moms and dads to administrative assistants to MBAs to CEOs" more valuable to their company in the form of The Complete Speed Reading Program.
The Complete Speed Reading Program, Family Edition, has four books (available both as a PDF download and "if desired" in print):
Speed Read in Only One Hour teach you the basic techniques and has multiple reinforcement exercises. If You Can Read This, You Can Read Faster is specifically designed for children. It is written at a third-grade reading level to help give young brains the best chance to re-learn how to read. It also teaches the basic techniques of the program. Be Dynamic Through Speed Reading is essential for anyone looking to go to college or go back to school. Focusing on concentration, note taking, and recall, this book will help students wade through the millions of words that need to be read each semester and give them time to not only finish their studies, but also to have a social life.
Think Right is a book not on speed reading, but as SpeedRead America takes a holistic approach to everything we do "helps one develop one's own self-power and provides an ethical viewpoint on technology" Think Right focus is learning to help set your thoughts on what you want and then accomplish whatever that might be.
In addition to the books, the Complete Speed Reading Program has a dozen audio files designed to be listened to at any time "during a commute, during "down time" at work, or even during sleep" to buttress not only the speed reading, but the other topics covered in the books. Some of the audio files supplement the speed reading program while others cover reading comprehension, accelerated learning skills, memory enhancement and intuitive development. Others take on a more spiritual bent, offering tips and conditioning to aid in relaxation and stress relief, developing self confidence and self power, and eliminating the inner negative dialogue.
The Speed Read Complete books and courses have been sold all over the world, and have been translated into six major world languages. Developed by Dr. Jay Polmar, an expert in the fields of self-improvement, continuing education and self-growth, The Complete Speed Read Program for Families presume a success rate unheard of in its industry and offers a full money back guarantee that you will be reading noticeably and significantly faster in only 21 days.

Plenty of Short Book Reviews
Dave Barry's Money Secrets by Dave Barry: Dave Barry's Money Secrets is one of those books that makes you laugh out loud and then read that passage to whomever is with you, and then give them the book to read when you're done. Even though Dave Barry has retired from writing his weekly newspaper column, it's obvious his skill at writing humor still runs strongly within him. I can continue quoting humorous passages from the book, but do yourself a favor instead, and get your own copy.
The Havana Room by Colin Harrison: Still, The Havana Room manages to capture the soul of a city, although it's not an honorable one. New York is as complex as the characters within The Havana Room and just as full of secrets and desires for more. Perhaps the city is really the central character here, flawed, beautiful, and impossible to understand. Within its scope, Colin Harrison paints a portrait of a man struggling to understand himself and his place within it, and to give up wanting more and appreciate what he has. Enjoy the secrets of The Havana Room.
Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner: With Freakonomics, Levitt and Dubner have given us a new way to look at our world. This is a short book, about 200 pages, and reads very quickly. As each story gleaned from the data unfolds, you'll find yourself surprised, laughing, and reading passages aloud to someone else. It is like a treasure hunt, with little secrets unearthed that were there in plain sight much of the time. The authors have created a book that is both entertaining and educational. The last thing you should do, though, is take my word for it. Get a copy and find out for yourself.
Gazelle by Rikki Ducornet: Gazelle is ultimately a sad, but beautiful, book. Rikki Ducornet creates a vivid world of fragrance and sensuality, and the power those forces have on those caught in their spells. Like the magician of the story, though, it can be an empty power and just a delusion. Not even the ancient powers can control a heart and bring love where it's not offered. Enjoy Gazelle for its adventure through the realms of sensuality and let the fragrance of this story waft to your mind. Rikki Ducornet casts a tantalizing spell.
Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim by David Sedaris: It's sentences like that grab your attention with his off-kilter way of telling about his life that makes you want to find out what it's all about. Fortunately, David Sedaris continues to deliver on the promise with more interesting, funny, and thought-provoking parts of his life. Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is a welcome addition to his private literary genre and a gift to the world that can always use more laughter. My time spent with David Sedaris passed too quickly, but this is a book that can be read again when a dose of laughter is needed. If you haven't read any of his work before, this is a fine place to start. If you're a fan of David Sedaris, Dress Your Family in Corduroy and Denim is one you must read.
The Ghost by Robert Harris: Following Robert Harris' own explanation, The Ghost feels true. His characters act like we believe politicians would, and his intrigue and secrets, while surprising within the story, are unsurprising in the world of political theater where the ends often justify the means. While Adam Lang is not Tony Blair, Harris' outrage at recent history hits the nail on the head. The Ghost rises above political thriller to an eye-opening examination of the recent past and current issues. Whatever literary or political points he meant to score with The Ghost, Robert Harris has done so in both a thought-provoking and entertaining way.
Gods Behaving Badly by Marie Phillips: Despite a few bumps along the way and some mean, pernicious behavior of the gods, Gods Behaving Badly eventually rescues itself from the traps it must avoid. When it tends to get repetitious or too over the top, Marie Phillips guides it back to a scene or setting that highlights human foibles or insights, and the novel is back on the road to being an entertaining read. Once Neil and Alice are confident enough to take over the novel, it glides full of humor to its immortal conclusion. Gods Behaving Badly is an original concept wrapped around a familiar theme, and the combination of the unique setting, absurd and lecherous as it is, with a sweet love story makes it a successful debut novel for Marie Phillips. While you can't necessarily count on the gods to do the right thing, reading Gods Behaving Badly is a safe bet for any reader.
Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke: Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell is a wonderful, entertaining, and thoroughly enjoyable novel. I am glad I came under Susanna Clarke's enchantment and I'm eager to press this novel into the hands of family and friends and urge them to read this book.

Passing Along Your Knowledge
Nothing is worse for an avid reader and a lover of books than having a child who hates to read. Reading to a child early in life will help them foster a love of reading and prepare them to read themselves, but sometimes not even that can be enough to foster a love of the written word. Reading parents know that aversion to reading will haunt their child for the rest of his life, making school harder making the rest of his or her life harder.
But, as any parent knows, you cannot just say to a 10-year-old who hates reading, "You're going to read and you're going to like it." First, you have to understand why reading is so difficult for your student.
In the school systems today, reading is being taught in an inefficient manner. "Average" readers today read anywhere from 100 words per minute (usually for memorization purposes) to 700 words per minute ("skimming", looking only for specific key words). As the words per minute go up, reading comprehension goes down, and this is borne out in standardized test scores. With the pressure on slower readers of having to finish the reading section and the comprehension questions within a set period of time, most end up turning to "skimming" looking only at key words in the question and then trying to find them in the reading section. This "cheater" system is only reinforced when the test comes back with a good grade (since they were only looking for specific words).
What would you, as a father, pay to not only teach your child a better, faster, and easier way of reading but also one that increases their reading comprehension up to over 80%?
How about nothing? When you purchase Speedread America's Complete Speed Reading Program for yourself, you have Speedread America's permission "even its blessing" to pass the course on to any of your friends and family members who love to read and would like to read more or who are struggling to read and are on the fence about reading in general.
Imagine your child reading every word on the standardized test page in less than ten seconds and remembering everything! How much better will your child feel about him or herself, being the first to finish the test instead of the last? Homework and studying time could be cut in half, or more, giving all of you more family time.
Reports from previous customers of Speedread America have shown that less than a month after beginning the Complete Speed Reading Program Family Edition, students' grades have improved dramatically in some instances rising from a C average to an A in only 21 days!

Lesson In Speed Reading
ACCELERATION THROUGH PACING:
Various hand movements can cause acceleration of reading speed. We are about to introduce you to several hand movements that will accelerate your reading ability. Try each one and see which suits you best.
It\'s simple. Just replace all your bad reading habits with one easily learned one: You\'ll use your pacing hand. It breaks each of these habits automatically while it increases your reading speed.
Pace your eyes so swiftly over a line that you don\'t have time to form the sounds of the words or syllables in your throat.
The method is easy. You\'ll replace all your bad habits with one easily learned one: You\'ll use your pacing hand. Here\'s how to break each of these habits automatically while increasing your reading speed.
You\'ll read without sub-vocalizing. You already know the basics: Pace your eyes so swiftly over a line that you don\'t have time to form the sounds of the words or syllables in your throat.
To understand this concept, you must understand that you\'ve got this nemesis, an inner voice who is reading to you in silent speech and then it goes into your brain. We did experiments in Hawaii, Texas, New Mexico, Florida, and elsewhere. It appears that those with the slowest speaking rates have naturally slow reading rates. With this method, your rate of speech won\'t limit your reading speed. You can read as fast as you can think. What I am saying is you can read as fast as your mind can work.
Extend your index finger, close all others. Use you index finger as a beginner Speed reading student and run it under the line of type you are reading..
Extend your index finger, close all others. As you notice I\'ve indicated a hand holding a pencil earlier to use for pacing. That can come later. Use you index finger as a beginner Speed reading student.
You\'ll be reading twice as fast as you ever have. You\'ll retain valuable information and increase your comprehension and improve your grades.
